anyone into guns/shooting?
when i was younger i would go w/ my dad. as i got older we stopped going. wasnt until 2 years ago i got back into it. i really enjoy it. either going to a gun range or out to the middle of the desert shooting cans & watermelons.
les grew up w/ it as well but same story, stopped as she got older. it wasnt until this past summer that i bought a gun of her own for the house (safety) i took her, her twin sister, & our 15 year old niece 2 weeks ago to a gun range. we all had fun.
its kind of like working out in the way that i feel relaxed when we're done.
we have a remington 870 express w/ a blackhawk handle glock 17 9mm taurus 605 .357 & in about 15 days we'll have a glock 21sf .45
would still like to get an old fashion colt 45 cowboy gun & a ar-15 .223
anyone?
id also like to get into bow & arrow stuff.

Man, I heart guns! I grew up shooting all kinds of light/ heavy artillery! My step dad had 325 acres of Ohio wilderness where we could blow up water jugs all day! He used to compete & win pots of cash. My real dad liked guns but was more into hunting.
I too got out of it as I got older. Recently I've been wanting to get back into it. I want to buy a new shotgun.
I own a .32 caliber handgun & a .410 gauge/bore shotgun. I love the .410 but I'd give up the damn shitty .32 I have any day.
I want to teach Renee how to use the shotgun for protection. We've been discussing it. It is often said that a .410 is great for home protection because it is = to a .45 caliber, it barely kicks, it's lethal up to about 20 yards which is great indoors, you don't have to be real accurate since it is a scatter gun, & if you use bird shot in it, it won't penetrate the house walls so the neighbors won't die in the process. It only destroys the 1st layer or two of walls, but it stops on the house side of the wall.
Since I bought a house in the city, shooting is not as easy as it used to be. I've been looking around lately. I want to find a decent range. Some of them are big $$$ per hour so I'm weighing my options.
I'd like to own a .12 gauge for my own desire to blow shit up, but I don't see it in our future anytime soon. It is not practical since I have close neighbors. A .12 gauge would destroy my walls, & penetrate theirs. I'd like to own a Taurus .357 myself, the kind with the 7 shot wheel. These things are pretty far off though.
Here are some .410s I've been eyeing. They're cheap too..ball park $300. They have good ratings as well.
Saiga .410 semi-auto. This Russian built gun is based on the specs of a AK47.
Mossburg 500 pump home security .410. This thing looks so badass, & I think the biggest deterrent in a home invasion is the sound of the "Chink-Chink"! It sends a message me thinks!

I shot guns when I was younger when we would go to my Grandmother's farm and stuff like that. My wife wants a shotgun for the exact same reason that Cat said, she thinks the "clink clink" would scare off a burglar if we ever had one. There is a couple opening a shooting range across the street from where we work. It is the only range inside the city in Atlanta so Toni (my wife) will probably go there and learn to shoot. The funny part of the story is that a couple of weeks ago the lady who is opening the place came into where we work and introduced herself. She told us they are also opening a bakery at the end of the street, so she brought in big chocolate chip cookies wrapped in plastic with free handgun rental coupons attached. I thought, "Yep, I definitely live in the South"....cookies and guns anyone?

12 gauge is fine for home defense, cat... you just need to make sure to load with #6, not buckshot. 6 will not go through drywall, but it will rip a person up very well. besides... if you have to shoot, things have gone far to hell anyway. i was thinking about going to a 410 or a 20 gauge, for that very reason; my kids' rooms are directly across the living room from ours... talked to a lot of people, and loaded the 12 with #6.... and i agree.... the sound of a round being chambered in a shotgun is the best home defense ever. any robber not hopped up out of his mind, will look for the nearest exit immediately. i keep one in the chamber, and would still rack in another if someone came in.... o yea... to the original question... at this point, i have just the 12... mossberg 500, best shotgun around, in my opinion, though that remington 870 is VERY nice. my next purchase will be a nice .357 magnum.... i like it because i can chamber .357mag or .38 special. guns that will shoot two types of rounds make me happy i have very little interest in glocks, or other semi-auto pistols. i like them. they are great and all, but i carry a pistol for one reason, and if i have to pull it, i need to know it will work right, every time. there's a reason almost every cop carries a revolver as their backup. wow... i'm starting to sound like some southern gun nut. i need to shut up. if anyone needs me, i'll be clinging to my guns and my bible.

As for the .50 cal. What a rush it would be to blow that cannon off!
Larryl, I guess the only thing holding me back then is if my wife who is 5' 8'' & 100 lbs can hold that 12 gauge? She has no muscle definition. I've always been attracted to women who are skin & bones, & she's certainly is a tiny tiny woman.

herb... basically the size of the shot in the shell. this link gives a good bit of info on it. they recommend 00 or 1 buckshot for home defense, but that doesn't take into account wall penetration. www.firearmstactical.com/briefs10.htmcat... i would say depends on the barrel and stock on the 12. with a pistol grip and short barrel, she should have no problems holding it. controlling it might be a different problem...... but that's true of almost anyone shooting a 12 with a pistol grip. but you can always go with a 20 or a 410...nothing wrong with that at all. bass pro has a couple on sale this weekend i've been looking at.... just for the heck of it.

My dad and stepdad are both into guns for hunting and/or protection...I haven't inherited the great interest in it... ....but I grew up with them in the house and went to the shooting range once in a while growing up, too...I always joke that I will buy a little lightweight gun when my daughters become teenagers, and will have the gun out to polish them when the boys come by for a visit ...
