I've been riding a motorcycle for several years now. My former one was low on HP (17bhp), but it helped me learn the streets for I started on dirt bikes.
I was getting to the point where I never wanted to ride my bike. Last year, it sat in the garage for the better part of the year for it was seriously limited. I went low HP/ displacement. The idea was to pass the bike off to my wife after learning & upgrade to a much larger bike. My bike could do about 94mph but it was out of power by the time I got there. 70mph was pushing it, & I couldn't pass anyone for acceleration was way to slow (out of steam). It's brakes were mushy, all my stops felt like a I was hanging on for my life because I was applying so much pressure. (It had old school drum brakes.) I would get blown into other lanes when strong freeway winds hit for it was barely 300lbs wet. Strong head winds or when it was cold would cause the bike to go no faster then 55-65 mph.
Back in April I sold it. I seriously sold it way under it's normal price because I wanted to be free of it. I undersold myself on purpose. My motorcycle & I were getting divorced. I didn't love it & it didn't love me. It was a great set of training wheels but I needed something badass. Something that was what I wanted, not what was economical or frugal.
This was my 1st road bike, a Honda Nighthawk.
Slightly before I sold the Honda, I started looking around at several brands of motorcycles. I fell in love with a good five different ones, then it became three, then two. Finally I started changing my mind every other day from one or the other. The day came, I need to go to the dealer & demo them.
For my tastes, it was hands down this one: Harley-Davidson XR1200X.
The street version of their several decade winning dirt track racer.
It has 100bhp, goes 130mph, has insane amounts of torque, 45 degree lean angle, racing brakes/ suspension. SEX ON WHEELS!
I'm a total motorcycle whore now. I ride it almost every day. I rarely use my car anymore. I wake up at night thinking about it only to take off for two hours or more in the middle of the night driving out to the middle of nowhere. I commute with it, I do minor touring with it, I take it out to twisty country roads & make it work like a slave as I carve out canyon like curves & what not. I'm so in love! I love the wind beating my chest for hours, I love to cruise at relative fast speeds, & I explore everywhere. I rarely have a destination, I'm just always letting my heart tell me to go this way or that way. When curiosity hits, I just drive down that road. It's pure ecstasy!
Winds are no match for me, I just power through them. I can stop on a dime & give you back 9 cents change. I can pass anybody. I have power in all gears so I never run out of steam. It runs great hot or cold. The suspension makes bumps invisible. It is my dream bike.
Now I dream of making more money so I can start a stable of iron horses. I want a straight up sportsbike, an old fashion looking british bike, & a power-crusier. I want to own a dirtbike again too.
It's a sickness worth infecting others.
