steve - good issue....do you mind if I pose some questions here? before getting into content, I wanted to ask about what has become a real wide spread trend in journalism overall - the email interview. Do you prefer face to face/phone or email interviews? Hey Rhu - Thanks for the kind words on this issue. This one took a awhile to get out and was hard to do in some respects. Anyway, your question... I prefer to do the interviews however the artist wants. Some want the email because they can take time to really formulate the answers, and they can do it at their leisure. Phone interviews are cool except it takes forever to transcribe onto the computer... I do them however people want to do them. One thing that drives me crazy about email interviews are sometimes I send the questions and I get back these one sentence answers. That always sucks because if it was a phone call or face to face you can follow up easier. I think they all have their pros & cons. I would prefer phone but since that is my side job (so to speak) I can only do the phone at different times. Plus, just being honest here, I am a fan of everyone that we interview and many times on the phone I get really nervous because the fan-boy in me comes out. Everyone has always been very cool, only once did I upset anyone, and it was unintentional... guess that will happen. My opinion is that everything is becoming online/email. Even many magazines are going online with a print edition, or strictly online. Technology is getting more streamlined, but it feels like we are becoming a society that communicates more by email than by phone... virtual relationships I guess. Thanks for asking:)

my original answers were just one word answers You didn't have one word answers Herb??? I guess what I mean about what Rhu asked is that one band that I am in the process of interviewing has all my questions. Then I get the responses about 2 weeks later, and they are these short itty bitty answers. Maybe I'm not clear enough in my questions to them, so maybe it is my fault - like if I ask, "How did you get signed to so & so label?" and the response is , "I met Jeff on tour"... I guess technically that is what I asked, but I just assumed the story would be a bit more involved. So then I email follow up and wait another couple of weeks for an answer... that is why I would rather have a face to face or phone interview.

Anyway, your question... I prefer to do the interviews however the artist wants. I hadn't considered that. That makes a helluva lot of sense. My opinion is that everything is becoming online/email. Even many magazines are going online with a print edition, or strictly online. Technology is getting more streamlined, but it feels like we are becoming a society that communicates more by email than by phone... virtual relationships I guess. there is a real disengagement going on out there. as a manager, i have to force the new hires to use the phone (over email/IM). I have to follow up and make sure they didn't try sneaking an email instead. There is a real hesitancy to engage. hard to imagine where it will go from here.....

If you want a “calling” go teach children in Ghana music, English and the gospels or go and teach music to children in China. How about working with inner city kids in the US or playing senior centers for free, but do not claim the honor of ministry if all your life and music is just to entertain bored house wives and entertain Christian youth in rated “G” entertainment. strong words.

I read the Dan Michaels and Bill Mallonee articles...good work! I didn't really know anything about Mallonee prior to reading. Seems like an interesting guy. Your magazine is quite good! Keep it up!

Thanks Diaz - nice to hear that! Yeah, Bill is a really interesting guy. I'm a big fan of his music, and he is one of the most prolific guys I know. Definitely a great conversationalist - I admire him for all he has been through in the music business, and still plugging away 100% independent!
